Delight your senses with our Savory Morel Mushroom and Gruyere Tart, an exquisite dish that showcases the unique flavor and texture of morel mushrooms. These highly sought-after wild mushrooms, known for their honeycomb-like appearance and earthy, meaty taste, truly shine in this elegant tart recipe.

Paired with the nutty, rich notes of Gruyere cheese and a flaky, buttery crust, this savory tart is a true gourmet masterpiece. Perfect for a sophisticated brunch, a light lunch, or a stunning appetizer, this dried morel mushroom tart will impress your guests with its exceptional taste and beautiful presentation.

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz dried morel mushrooms
  • 1 9-inch pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 1/2 cups grated Gruyere cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup chopped leeks or green onions
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the pie crust in a 9-inch tart pan or pie dish, pressing it gently against the bottom and sides. Trim any excess dough, and set aside.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, soak the dried morel mushrooms in 2 cups of warm water for 20-30 minutes or until soft.
  3. Drain the mushrooms, reserving the soaking liquid. Rinse the mushrooms thoroughly to remove any grit, then chop them into small pieces.
  4. In a medium-sized skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped leeks or green onions, and cook until they are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the chopped morel mushrooms to the skillet and cook for an additional 5-7 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender and have released their moisture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, and ground nutmeg. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Spread the cooked morel mushroom mixture evenly over the bottom of the pie crust, then sprinkle the grated Gruyere cheese on top.
  8. Pour the egg and cream mixture over the mushrooms and cheese, filling the pie crust evenly.
  9. Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown. If the crust begins to brown too quickly, cover the tart with aluminum foil.
  10. Remove the tart from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy the Savory Morel Mushroom and Gruyere Tart warm or at room temperature.
